Packaging is what holds sterility after the cycle: without a barrier that lasts, what came out of the autoclave sterile stops being so on the shelf. This paper keeps that barrier against dirt and microorganisms, and it comes with a printed type 1 chemical indicator, so a processed pack can be told from an unprocessed one at a glance.
